A Study on the Location of the Mental Foramen in Adult Korean Mandibles

Abstract

|
|
The authors investigated the location of the mental foramen in 81 cases of adult Korean mandibles. The results were as follows: 1. In the position of mental foramen relative to lower teeth, mental foramen is located between the first premolar and the second premolar in 64.81%, below the first premolar in 16.67%, below the second premolar in 13.58%, and between the second premolar and the first molar in 4.94%. respectively. 2. The distance between the lower border of mandible and the most anterior portion of mental foramen is 16.43±1.69㎜ in right side and 16.43±1.74㎜ in left side. 3. The distance between the most anterior portion of mental foramen and the most anterior margin of mandible is 14.61±2.41㎜ in right side and 14.83±2.03㎜ in left side. And the distance between the most anterior portion of mental foramen and the most posterior margin of mandible is 68.64±4.25㎜ in right side and 68.25±4.40㎜ in left side.
